We're back!

It's good to be back. After a few weeks of silence, the team is back at it. Despite some troublesome theme issues, that are almost eliminated, we have returned. There's nothing more to report on this end, so we'll leave you with some excerpts from classics, such as best selling Lorem Ipsum: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor invidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliquyam erat, sed diam voluptua. At vero eos et accusam et justo duo dolores et ea rebum. Stet clita kasd gubergren, no sea takimata sanctus est." Read More →

Another Angry Blog, Or is it?

You may have noticed our newest friend on the internet. Who is he? Is it another rant blog? Does he have balls or just another faker? To be honest, he has balls. Too much infact. So why is this blog different? Well it's the first blog on the planet not written by a human being. That's right, it's written by a chemical in humans called Testosterone. All things aside, he's an old friend and he's angry, which is good? We don't know. You be the judge, oh and some stuff, yeah may be a little NSFW. Visit the site →

kbabslive is not selling advertising space at this time.

Adieu Facebook

article by admin On Sunday, June 29, 2008 View Comments
So why did I make the bold move yesterday and abandon Facebook?

Perhaps it's imminent declination to the likes of MySpace, Hi5 and Bebo?
Maybe the way people went about and did what they did there.

Sure Facebook harbours many of my friends online, who spend their days attacking vampires and adding as many applications as humanly possible. Plenty of these friends use it to share photos and catchup with old friends who they have almost lost contact with.

Okay, sounds like a neat tool. But why did it kill itself?

The answer lies with social politics.

Although we are free to do whatever we want (other than hatespeak, defamation etc). The abuse of Facebook lies here. Adhering to the following unfathomable logic
  • The more 'friends' I have, the cooler I am
  • The more photos I have of me with other friends, the cooler I am
  • Let's make everyone jealous of me and show them how cool my life is
  • Let's let everyone else know that I'm "In a Relationship" and with whom so that I'm cool
  • Let's show people that I'm so deep in this relationship (or even friendship) that I'll list myself as "practically married"
  • Let's add as many spamming applications as possible because I want to have the best profile page
  • Let's show pictures of me and my partner making out, because I'm cooler than everyone else
  • Let's send as many application requests so that I can find out 'who my perfect soul mate is' or 'what colour my relationship describes'.
Everything I just mentioned above was once used responsibly. Now its has just become lame. It's like when they ruined emails by jumping on the "let's forward this chain email to a billion other people because I don't want to die at 12 or get bad luck or have a crappy relationship" bandwagon. Here at KL we promote free thinking; and marketing and advertising we have always kept an eye on. Which is why we hate Apple's brainwashing of its target of the ignorant fan base, and any kind of propagandists for that matter.
The proliferation of spam is something I deteste. And that is just one of the reasons why I am sick and tired of Facebook. Where is the simplicity and calmness it once boasted, before the idiots arrived. It attracted the thousands who hated Hi5, Bebo and MySpace because it was different to the rest. It's privacy enforcement, its clean and shiny look, it's lack of "I'm cooler than you" people. The unheardof-ness of spam.

Frankly if you put pictures and stuff up on Facebook because you want to show how "cooler" you are. Then wow are you insecure. Having videos and pictures to share is fine, because that's the point of the social internet. But to go out of your way to prove to everyone else that you are better than someone else. That's just sad.

You can't stop the "I'm socially more popular than you" people. If you really are more social than everyone else then get off the internet this instant and go hang with these 1700 friends of yours. Do something useful with your life, please. Social heirarchy, pfft your just f-ing fake.

You can't stop the spammers either. You can block invites however. Or just give up.

Some people don't really care. I don't blame you. Those of you who use Facebook properly--good on you. I take pride in offending plenty of people here, because that's my purpose. Please don't get insulted if you do use Hi5, MySpace, Facebook, Bebo, 360, Orkurt properly; it's just that Facebook has lost my respect and is now so full of vermin who have nothing better to do than pretend to be better than everyone else. And to the spammers: I curse many telemarketer calls to your home.

Maybe one day I will return there. Who know's. Who cares.

Easily send screenshots with Windows Live Messenger

article by admin On Saturday, June 21, 2008 View Comments
Why is no one else aware of this?

How many times might you have wanted to show someone what's on your screen but couldn't be bothered
  1. pressing Print Screen
  2. going to Paint
  3. pasting
  4. saving, and finally
  5. finding and sending the file
Well with Windows Live Messenger it's so much simpler.

After you've gotten rid of the annoying advertising, try Messenger's way of sending screenshots.

You ready for this? Ok,
  1. Press Print Screen
  2. Open your conversation
  3. Paste (Ctrl+V)
Yes, that's all. WLM then saves the clipboard image to a temporary location and sends it as a jpeg file.

Any image on your clipboard can be sent by pasting it.

To capture just the foreground window press Alt+Print Screen.

And by the way, if you use a Mac, you can print screens by pressing Command-Shift-3. Hmm. And right clicking is Ctrl+Click. Hmmm!

Oh and another tip: you can drag and drop files into where you type your text to send it.

Firefox Hits 8.3 Million

article by Morgan On Thursday, June 19, 2008 View Comments

It appears the they have exceeded their expectations of 5 million, alphaomega's expectation of 7 million, and even my expectation of 8 million.

8 , 3 0 0 , 0 00

Yes, that is the unofficial number until confirmed by the Guinness World Record Team.

kbabslive would like to thank anyone who did support Mozilla's effort to break the stranglehold of IE's narrow and limited functionality and tyranny. You all deserve a huge pat on the back.

Ooh, shiny.

As alpha mentioned, our site recently moved to a new domain:

As he forgot to mention, our site contact email has also changed:

t e a m @ k b a b s l i v e . c o m

Individual contact details can be found in the about section.
On another note, folks, download Firefox 3! We're being beaten by the UK...

...by a factor of two-to-one!

You don't want to be beaten by a country that is barely a quarter of our size! Download Firefox already!

We're Back!

Welcome back. We have a new location on the Internets!

And all the comments are back up!

Nothing much has changed in the team except alacarte nearly had a haircut yesterday, however our emails have now changed. You can check our the new emails on the ABOUT US section. New profile pages, about pages and discussion links will finally make an appearance this time.

Also,

We would also like to remind you that Firefox 3 is finally here. We are not a fan of Opera here (something about a once-had-to-pay-for software we don't like). It's far less customisable than Fox and frankly the only real upside for it is the cascaded window tab feature (which is pretty brilliant).

About an hour ago I woke up and there had been a million downloads. I mean Iraq alone had 32 pledges (7:18 Sydney time), so what's your excuse?

Mozilla hopes to reach 5 million, but it's only been 4 hours since the release date. The download day finishes at 3:00 AM Thursday (Sydney time, check others here).

If you're still too afraid to use Firefox, then first see the features, then her extensions, and some tips and tricks and for the braver of us the release notes. We've all been using the betas and release candidates and it's pretty obvious that Firefox 3 will not be beaten for a very very long time.

Do you pledge allegiance?

So head over to the download page and make the web a safe place (for you and everyone else).

Rumours are emerging of a power struggle at kbabslive and that it has been bought out! They are actually true. But needn't be believed. Stay tuned for news! Links will definitely be screwy :D

Fragmentation

Memories.

Love em or hate them, we all have em. The good, the bad, the boring and sometimes the just plain weird and pointless.

But as advanced as our modern minds are, we all invariably forget something. Important memories, minor memories, stupid memories, all of them! They are all prone to being forgotten over time, to be overwritten by another memory or sometimes, just plain forgotten.

How about those memories that we want to forget?

I’m sure that sentence alone triggered your own memories. Somewhere inside of your head, there is a memory that you would much rather do without, because it’s too annoying, too painful or just too ugly to look at.

But think again. If you read that sentence and noted that you have something that you just want to forget, have you really forgotten it?

Maybe you haven’t.

Or have you? Did you just happen to remember that you once had such a terrible memory that you wanted to forget it, but you can’t remember what that actual memory was?

What about if I suggested that maybe, just maybe, you never really forget anything?

Even when you want to.

Perhaps when you forget something, whether it’s over time or because you force yourself to, what your mind actually does is break that memory down. Cut it into little pieces, fragments, and simultaneously breaking up the bonds between the different fragments of memory.

Let’s try an example.

Say that, on one particular night, you met up with a person at a place. The music and atmosphere of that place was very distinctive, and the day was of particular significance to you for whatever reason. And you shared a very special, memorable moment with that person.

Now, for whatever reason down the track, you decided that you wanted to get rid of that memory.

A significant amount of time later, you enter a place. The music and atmosphere of this particular place is extremely similar to that where you shared that memorable moment with someone long, long ago.

Would you remember it all?

Or is it more likely to be a feeling? A sense of familiarity, a sense that you know of this from somewhere, but for some reason you can’t remember how, when, where, who and why. You might remember that you were here on some special day, but you can't remember when. You might remember that you were with someone, but you can't remember who. You might remember that you did something special, but you can't remember what.

All you can remember is a fragment of the original memory, specifically the bit that was triggered by whatever had just occurred to remind you of it. But that’s all it is. A fragment of a memory, with hints that it was once related, linked to something else, to a bigger picture.

But nothing more.

So did the memory really disappear?

Or, as you tried your best to forget it, your mind broke it up into smaller and smaller fragments, until those fragments became so small that they lost any meaning by themselves?

Why do I think this?

Because I reckon the above scenario happens to everybody. Something that they want to forget never gets truly forgotten. The wrong combination of familiarities, or triggers as I call them, and the whole memory can be dragged back out into the open, plain in sight.

But given enough time and enough distractions, the memory gets more and more fragmented, until it is in so many tiny pieces that it would take a truly horrendously familiar situation to ever pull the complete memory out again.

It’s not really forgetting. It’s just making the memory insignificant enough to never be remembered.

Firefox 3 coming next Tuesday

article by admin On Thursday, June 12, 2008 View Comments
Gran Paradiso is going to be released this coming Tuesday. Oh whoops, for you n00bs, that's Firefox 3! And they're hoping to hit a world record in the number of total downloads in the space of 24 hours. This sucks for me because the 17th is the day before my download allowance resets, and plus I have exams on that day. But just to show my dedication I will endure the 64k connection. No one is sure who they're trying to beat in this world record but it's most likely some internet viral or just Firefox 2. Be sure to download Firefox 3, at time of posting 1,080,796 people have pledged to support the record. What's mad about the pledges page is that you can see how many people from a certain country have made their pledge. To note, 302 from Iraq, 246 from North Korea and 1024 from Kazakstan. In other news Internet Explorer remains unbeaten in its world record as the Most Uninstalled Software in it's Lifetime if it were not the Hardest Software to Uninstall.

Happy downloading. And have a safe surf.

Firefox 3 has major facelift which isn't really that bad. The new bookmarks system is pretty cool. So if you haven't already tried out or seen Firefox 3 pre-releases, then check out Top 10 Firefox 3 Features and Screenshot Tour of Firefox 3. Normally I'd review this myself, however because of upcoming exams I don't have the time.

If you're a player hater, you'd be happy to know Opera 9.5 is out. Freaks :)
