We're back!

It's good to be back. After a few weeks of silence, the team is back at it. Despite some troublesome theme issues, that are almost eliminated, we have returned. There's nothing more to report on this end, so we'll leave you with some excerpts from classics, such as best selling Lorem Ipsum: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor invidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliquyam erat, sed diam voluptua. At vero eos et accusam et justo duo dolores et ea rebum. Stet clita kasd gubergren, no sea takimata sanctus est." Read More →

Another Angry Blog, Or is it?

You may have noticed our newest friend on the internet. Who is he? Is it another rant blog? Does he have balls or just another faker? To be honest, he has balls. Too much infact. So why is this blog different? Well it's the first blog on the planet not written by a human being. That's right, it's written by a chemical in humans called Testosterone. All things aside, he's an old friend and he's angry, which is good? We don't know. You be the judge, oh and some stuff, yeah may be a little NSFW. Visit the site →

Conroy: if we all didn't hate him, we'd admire his cajones.

The public DEMANDS MORE CENSORSHIP!

Seriously? I don't understand who he is trying to win over with this whole censorship hoo-hah:
  • Anyone who knows the slightest about the internet hates the plan.
  • Anyone who doesn't know about the internet doesn't really care (try finding a prominent story about Conroy in the big newspapers).
  • The parties who were previously supportive are slowly backing away (eg. The Greens)
  • The only party left supporting censorship is Family First, whose public statements are best summed up as cries of 'Somebody think of the children' at regular, irritating intervals.
  • No matter how many people scream it at him, he doesn't seem to understand that it_won't_work.
Anyway, that's my rage for today. Night all!

This is how you do subtraction.

I was selling some iPods on eBay. Five of them. Two green, three black.

There were five left. I received a question:

OK, perhaps he wanted to make sure.

Fast forward two days. Still five iPods left (which is clearly visible in the listing as 'Five avaliable').

Another question:

...seriously? Can you people not work these complex numbers out by yourselves?!

We Told You So, Now It's Too Late

article by admin On Saturday, December 20, 2008 View Comments
It's never too late to say the beautiful phrase, I told you so. Despite ringing warning sirens since forever. 1, 2. You stood idly by ignorant of the theory that would apparently never work in practice. Well now it's too late. Australia's internet will now be filtered. In fact I am so glad you guys are only rising up in indignation only now, that I have changed my stance from being against ISP level filtering to being all for it. Why? Because it's simply all too late. Why stop at ISPs when there's plenty more ways to please the educated parent and genius politician.

If this plan goes ahead, which it will, then as my good friend alacarte tells me, the Rudd government will fall. But in the end, I am told, all they care about is votes. If they will get kicked out they will do everything they can to remain. Even going against what they think is right. Perhaps, but I'm eager to see how this will go. Let's expect some real anarchy to happen on the night the system starts running.

My proposal to the Australian people. If you think the ISP filters are not enough, and that you want a tighter rule over your family's as well as your own surfing experience, then I have devised some new methods in which you can prevent a worse case scenario.

Router level filtering

Firefox level filtering

Ethernet level filtering

Operating System level filtering

Internet level filtering

Unfortunately because this tutorial included the topics of explosives, and strapping them on a whale and using them to ram into the giant underwater internet cables, we received very angry emails such as this one:

Well done to all of you. Merry Christmas and a happy surfing experience next year.

Disclaimer: alphaomega frankly does not care if you think the acid the nuclear suit guy is dipping the Ethernet cable head into seems 3D perspectively incorrect,

What is wrong with TV remotes?

article by alacarte On Wednesday, December 10, 2008 View Comments
Harmony remotes are quite something to admire.

But why the heck do we even need them?

I mean, practically every TV in existence uses infrared technology for their remote controls, so why the heck are all the control codes different?

Why does issuing simple commands such as 'Channel 3', 'Vol Up' and etc require a different remote for each device in the first place?!

It's not as if this weird, useless segregation of TV remote controls is making anyone money!

Wait, hang on.

...those scheming bastards.

Microsoft Dreamspark

Just in case you haven't noticed yet, Microsoft is giving out development and design tools, including Visual Studio 2008, XNA Game Studio and Expression Studio 2, for free to university students over at
http://www.dreamspark.com

You'll need a Windows Live account along with your credentials (for UTS students, this would be your student number and password) in order to gain access to the stuff. (verification by a Shibboth server?)

Personally I'm just in it to see how Expression Studio stacks up against Macromedia's stuff (its Adobe, but I hate their effing Update Manager). This'll be interesting.

The 24 Movie (Redemption) in Australia

article by admin On Tuesday, December 02, 2008 View Comments
TV series 24 took an entire year off with the writers strike and Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland) getting caught for drink driving. I mean come on, he's saved America from suitcase nukes, nerve gas, Russians, Middle Easterners and worst Americans themselves. The new movie is a bridge between the last season and the one to come next year, which includes the first female president, you know, cause having black presidents was no longer original.

The movie, 24 Redemption, runs for 2 hours and will air on Channel 7 Friday 5 December at 8.30pm. That's in Sydney anyway. It's about time too. I must say, I love how they ran it in the last few years. Two hour episodes Wednesday and Thursday. Thats 4 hours a week! That's what keeps me glued to the set than a DivX, plus watching that show continuously without any ad breaks will, I gurantee, kill you. Imagine hardcore fans having a 24 marathon, trying to keep it real time too.

Happy viewing.
